The Cons

Video conferencing is great when it's freeBut not so great when free doesn't give you much to work with.

Specifics

Skype: Hefty amounts of lag. Not only is Skype a little slow, it will slow down the rest of your running applications as well. $9 isn't much for such a huge increase in participants, but you'll only add more confusion and chaos to the all ready laggy call. Screen sharing will also be terrifying with the latency - your screen will lag, and participants will lag while watching you lag.

Google+ Hangouts: You probably will never need 20+ slots for a conference call! I would honestly hope not, because that just means a TON of lag. The apps are great, but not that great when nobody knows how to play the games, or even when they're lagging through it all. You also need to have a Google+ account. The chat logs are also not saved, which can be insanely frustrating.

GoToMeeting: ONLY free for 3 participants. Anything above is insanely expensive. It's a little bit confusing to use, and all of the interfaces on the different OS's are a little bit different. They made no clear effort to carry consistency through their website/applications.

TinyChat: Ads, ads everywhere. Not greatly professional, and the TinyChat front page isn't the safest thing to see. They have apps in the App and Play store, but they're rated insanely low. Also, lag.

Fuze: 3 participants is a very low threshold! Next to that, Fuze is pretty not intuitive. It has a problem with stacking identities, not logging people out... basically a ton of glitches.

The Benefits

Video conferencing is great when it's free. Under the premise that you have a desktop, laptop, or a phone, you can use all of these applications without cost.

Specifics

Skype (Premium/Business): Free version allows for 25 participants in a call. You can also share screens and share files. The premium version adds the perk of being able to video call with 10 participants. It also grants access to live customer support, and the ability to call phones. The "Essentials" option allows for 250 participants, as well as integration with Office 365, with many other storage perks.

Google+ Hangouts: Free version allows for 20 participants in a video chat. Users can also access all of the great applications (watching Youtube videos at the same time). Users can upgrade to the Pro version for $9, which just increases the participant cap to 50 people.

GoToMeeting: Free version allows for 3 participants in video chat, as well as screen sharing.

TinyChat: A web-based video calling website. Completely free. 12 people can video chat at once, but there is no limit to how many people can be in the room.

Fuze: Free version allows up to 3 voice and video participants, as well as screen and file sharing.
